Point 05: Presenting the decision on the construction of a new University Library to the entire academic community

Two scenarios have been developed for the new University Library, and the consultation process will start on 16 March.

The City Centre Campus will serve as the home base for students and employees of the Faculty of Humanities and the University Library. The representative advisory bodies were involved in the determination of the points of departure for the City Centre Campus at a very early stage. They were also consulted about the approach regarding the consultation process for the University Library. Two scenarios were developed for the consultation process: scenario A located the University Library in the Tweede Chirurgische Kliniek and the Zusterhuis buildings on the Binnengasthuis premises (with the other buildings accommodating the Faculty of Humanities), and scenario B placed the University Library in the Oudemanhuispoort (with the Faculty of Humanities using the other buildings – including the Tweede Chirurgische Kliniek and the Zusterhuis – for teaching and research).

Time frame

The qualitative consultation will begin on 16 March with a meeting in VOX-POP (Binnengasthuisstraat 9), and will continue until 13 April. During this period, any interested parties can view the exhibition about the new University Library, which explains both scenarios and the process. On 21 March (scenario A) and 23 March (scenario B), the architects will provide further explanation and answer questions. During the consultation period, an online platform will be set up on which employees and students can share their opinions, with all employees and students receiving an invitation to do so via email. A research agency will then process the input into a qualitative data analysis which will then be used during the decision-making process.
